BBC forecaster Darren Bett said: "Things are looking better for the start of the week which will be drier, much brighter and winds wont be as strong.

"Most places will have a dry day on Monday with some sunshine at times and temperatures similar to the weekend, so on the cool side.

"Into Tuesday, it looks like being a cloudy sort of a day but the weather starts to change in the middle part of the week with a front moving across the UK and we end up with falling pressure.

"It looks much more unsettled on Wednesday. More cloud around and a band of rain moving down towards the south with showers which could turn out to be thundery. Temperatures willl little bit lower on the whole on Wednesday because of that cloud and rain.

"Once that low pressure arrives looks like it's going to stick around into Thursday and perhaps into Friday as well. So in the latter part of the week, we're going to find some rain and a stronger easterly wind picking up."

Temperatures should struggle up to 16 °C in what sunshine there is today and tomorrow.

Things do not look much better for the weekend — warmer but with the chance of more thunderstorms, according to Met Office forecasts.
