Walkers reach top of 15 Welsh peaks in under a day for charity

A PAIR of walkers completed a 28-mile challenge for charity.

Glyn Costello from Daventry and Stuart Cottle from Earls Barton completed the Welsh 3,000 in aid of the Rainbow Trust Charity.

The challenge involves reaching all 15 peaks in Wales over 3,000ft within 24 hours without using any form of transport.

The pair started at the top of Snowdon at 5.53am on Saturday, June 23 and reached the summit of Foel Fras at 00:43am the following day in pitch black, fog, wind and driving rain.

Including the climb up Snowdon and the climb down Foel-fras, the total distance is around 28 miles and the total ascent is around 12,000ft.

Mr Costello said: “For the last few hours we could hardly see the ground beneath our feet, relying on nothing but a compass to guide us to the last three peaks and back home.”

The pair set a goal of raising £1,000. So far they have reached £800. To sponsor them go to www.justgiving.com/Glyn-and-Jon-w3000.
