Walk the canal towpath

A CANAL towpath walk to Braunston has been arranged by the Friends of Daventry Country Park.

The walk will be on Saturday, March 15. Walkers should meet at the Country Park’s visitors’ centre at 10am, and all are welcome.

The Grand Union Canal passes close to the Country Park before heading into Braunston Tunnel, with the towpath following the line of the route on the surface, running to the north of Daventry through the countryside, before rejoining the canal near the Braunston entrance to the tunnel. There are then the attractions of the Braunston locks and marina to enjoy.

There will be chances to buy refreshments at the narrowboat cafe the Gongoozler’s Rest, moored at Braunston.

Walkers should wear shoes suitable for towpaths, which can be muddy.
