Volunteers praised by Daventry's new mayor
The Mayor and other civic dignitaries processed from the town council offices in New Street, to the church and were met by a guard of honour, formed by Daventry Air Training Corps, the Army Cadet Force and The Royal British Legion.

Hide AdCanon Michael Webber addressed the congregation and the reading was Mark 2:1-12 read by Cllr Simmonds’ sister Jennifer Withers and a talk on cancer support by John Birch, from the Daventry Support Group of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Music was enjoyed from Daventry Brass, The Grange School Choir and organist Martin Heath.
The mayor praised voluntary organisations and spoke of her aim to raise funds for her chosen charity Macmillan Cancer Support during her year in office.
Following the service, the mayor invited all to the Daventry Welfare Room in New Street for afternoon tea.

Hide AdCllr Simmonds was elected as Mayor of Daventry, and chairman of Daventry Town Council, by her fellow councillors at the end of May. She replaced Cllr Wendy Randall as mayor.
Cllr Simmonds served last year as deputy mayor of the town.
