Villagers to go to the polls in Daventry district's first planning referendum

Preparations are under way for the referendum next Thursday (January 28) when parishioners will be asked to vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on whether Daventry District Council should use the new West Haddon Neighbourhood Development Plan to help decide planning applications.

If backed by voters, DDC is required to adopt it as an official planning document.

People who live in West Haddon Parish are eligible to vote in the referendum and the polling station will be open in the village hall from 7am to 10pm.

West Haddon Parish Council published the draft Neighbourhood Development Plan in December 2014, with consultation taking place in spring 2015. It was then reviewed by an independent examiner who published his report in September, recommending the plan goes to a referendum.

West Haddon is the first parish to reach this stage, but about 20 others in the Daventry district are already working on their own neighbourhood plans.
