VILLAGERS fear plans for a permanent truck stop could put paid to a campaign to stop lorries using its main road as a rat run.
Welford Parish Council has objected to plans for the Portly Ford Truck Stop off the A5199 between Welford and Cold Ashby.
The stop has operated for 16 years under several short-term temporary planning permissions but the latest plan submitted to Daventry District Council would see 69 secure HGV parking spaces created, plus diesel fuel pumps and a service building/cafe.
Welford Parish Council believes the A5199 is unsuitable, saying it has acquired a reputation for the number of ‘near misses’ involving HGVs turning into the stop. The stop is also within the amenity weight restriction route which Welford Action Group and the parish council are attempting to have imposed to stop lorries driving through the village.
