Village wedding venue denial overturned

A NEW wedding venue will be built in Dodford after councillors overturned a previous planning decision.

In November last year Simon and Annabelle Steel applied to turn the Manor House in Main Road, Dodford, into a hospitality venue to be used for a range of events including weddings.

Daventry District Council’s planning committee voted against the idea on the grounds that the restored building wouldn’t fit in with the “historic environment” of the area

Concerns were also raised about parking and access problems, as well as the use of copper as a roofing material.

But on Wednesday last week councillors went against officers recommendations to grant the couple permission to convert the old Manor House.

The house is a Grade II listed building and dates back to the late 18th century, but it is not currently in use because of its poor condition.

Mr Steel said the decision would help bring new jobs to the village.
