A HISTORIC village hall has been officially re-opened after hard working villagers helped to raise the thousands of pounds needed to refurbish it.
Ravensthorpe village hall was officially opened by Joan Tice, from the Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation, following a five-year campaign to raise the £87,000 to restore it for villagers to use.
The hall, which re-opened on Sunday, September 11, had been closed since May for the work to be carried out.
The changes to be made include creating more space inside the hall while new lighting, insulation, decoration and equipment has been fitted.
The hall, which will celebrates its 100th anniversary next year, was refurbished thanks to grants from the foundation and the Hollowell Steam Rally, as well as the tireless work of residents, who have organised fashion shows, discos, bingo evenings and lunches at the hall.
Lin Hudson, from the organising committee, said: “We have had an enormous amount of input from villagers and we are all over the moon.”
