Daventry District Council (DDC) and its contractor Enterprise Managed Services teamed up with McDonald’s, Daventry Town Council and town centre businesses including Tesco and Waitrose for the clean-up day yesterday (Thursday).
About 40 volunteers got stuck in to remove litter and rubbish, clear weeds, tidy flower beds and scrub footpaths.

The town council provided its offices in New Street, Daventry as a base of operations, while litter picking equipment including brushes as well as support from DDC and its partners was provided on the day.
The clean-up event was part of DDC’s Clean Up My Community campaign.
Paul Knight, Environmental Improvement Manager at Daventry District Council, said the idea of the day was to tidy private land in the town centre which lies outside the remit of the Council’s waste contractor.

“We want to discourage littering and encourage shop owners to take pride in their premises, to look after them and keep them tidy.”
