Unused sports pavilions could face bulldozers

FIVE sports facilities across the town could be demolished due to a lack of users and a poor state of repair.

Tonight (Thursday) Daventry District Council’s strategy group will discuss five sports pavilions around the town.

Coming under the spotlight are those on the Hollow in the centre of Daventry, the Spider Park on the Headlands, on the Southbrook’s Fishponds, on Burtons Meadow off Swann Dale/The Inlands, and the New Street bowling club.

The council says all the buildings are poorly used, with one not being used in seven years, and all in bad condition.

The plan is to advertise the buildings on the Headlands, Hollow and Fishponds for lease for sporting, leisure or community use.

If they cannot be leased they will be demolished. The Fishponds site could then be used to build new homes on.

The proposal for the bowls club in New Street, and the Burton Meadows pavilion, is to simply demolish them and return the land to part of their recreation grounds.
