All three lanes were blocked at police shut a three-mile stretch of the southbound carriageway for nearly two hours, sending drivers on a diversion via the A5 and A45.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "One of the HGV drivers had to be released by Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service crews and was treated by East Midlands Ambulance Service before taken to hospital. His injuries were not believed to be serious.

"The carriageway was closed until 12.20am to allow for one of the HGVs to be recovered."
