A5 shut both ways between Towcester and Weedon following 3.20am crash

Drivers advised to re-plan journeys with rush-hour diversions in place

The A5 remains closed between Towcester and Weedon heading into rush hour on Tuesday morning (May 10) following a crash in the early hours.

National Highways say the road is shut in both directions between the A43 and the A45 due to a collision involving a van and an HGV near Weedon Bec at 3.20am.

A spokesperson for the agency confirmed Northamptonshire Police are at the scene and managing the incident.

The A5 is set to remain closed between Towcester and Weedon throughout Tuesday's morning rush-hour following a serious crash

Traffic is being diverted via the A43, A45 and M1.

Latest estimates say the road is unlikely to reopen until mid-morning and drivers are being advised to re-plan journeys.

UPDATE: Police later confirmed a 19-year-old van driver died and a lorry driver was seriously injured in the crash.
