A teenager from Crick showed real girl power when she beat five boys to the title of B&Q’s Young DIYer of the Year.

Fifteen-year-old Rose Canham, who attends Guilsborough School, enjoys fixing and renovating and began her DIY journey when trying to create the perfect bedroom.

As part of her prize for having the most creative and original DIY projects and for her role as young ambassador, Rose met her hero Kirstie Allsopp last week.

Rose said: “Meeting Kirstie was a dream come true. I love to watch her programmes and pick up tips, so to meet her and get the chance to ask her things I’ve always wanted to know was brilliant.”

Rose says she is often inspired by Kirstie who suggested she make Youtube videos to inspire other youngsters to get involved in DIY.

Since her appointment Rose has also helped out on a BBC Children in Need project and appeared on The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

The ambassadorship will last a year and in future Rose hopes to study fashion at the Central Saint Martins in London.
