Time running out to make sure you can vote in May's elections in Daventry district

On Thursday, 5 May, residents will go to the polls to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire, as well as to elect councillors for one-third of the seats on Daventry District Council and members for local parish councils

The deadline for registering to vote in time for the 5 May elections is Monday, 18 April, with the deadline to apply for a postal vote on Tuesday, 19 April.

The quickest and easiest way to register to vote is to apply online at www.gov.uk/registertovote.

To vote by post people must be aged 18 or over, be on the electoral register and need to complete and return their postal vote application to Daventry District Council’s Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm 19 April.

Postal vote packs will start hitting doormats in Daventry District over the next couple of weeks from 16 April onwards and need to be sent back to arrive by close of poll, which is 10pm on Election Day, 5 May.

Voting by proxy is when someone appoints a person to vote on their behalf if they are unable to get to a polling station, for example if they are working away or on holiday abroad. Anyone can act as a proxy provided they are willing and eligible to vote in the relevant election.

In order to cast a vote by proxy people need to complete an application form and also return it to the Council’s Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Tuesday, 26 April. If an elector falls ill or is called away on business after this date they may be able to apply for an emergency proxy vote up to 5pm on Thursday, 7 May.
