Thousands of pounds worth of lead stolen from a village church

A THEFT from a church roof at St John the Baptish Church in Boddington saw £10,000 worth of lead stolen.

It happened at some point between Sunday November 11 and Tuesaday November 13 and saw 30 square metres taken from the chancelery.

The thieves have caused no further damage to the roof and temporary repairs

One of the churchwardens Peter Marsh said: “I just can not believe what goes through people’s minds when they decide to steal the theft.

“The lead they have stolen, they will probably be able to get £250 for.

“We will be installing an alarm on the church roof so that anyone who steps on it, there will be an alarm that goes off.

“I am just grateful that it wasn’t more lead stolen.”

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward by calling on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
