Magistrates banned a teenager from driving for two years after he admitted a hit and run in a Northamptonshire village in 2019.

Harry Lavers, 19, also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of driving while unfit through drugs in May last year.

Lavers was only 17 when the Renault Clio he was driving collided with a Ford Transit van in Flore on November 11, 2019.

Northampton Magistrates Court heard that Lavers, who is now 19, pulled out of Brockhall Road and into High Street before the collision, which caused damage to both vehicles.

He failed to stop at the scene but did report the matter to the police within 24 hours.

The court also heard that Lavers had been stopped by police six months later, on May 7, 2020, and found to have in his possession a quantity of cocaine.

Lavers, of Champions Field Way, Flore, pleaded guilty to possession of a class A drug and to driving while unfit through drugs when he appeared at court last month.

He was banned for six months for failing to stop and 18 months for the drug-driving offence.

Magistrates fined Lavers a total of £580 for the combination of offences plus ordered to pay £143 in prosecution costs and surcharge to fund victim services.

No separate penalty was given for another charge Lavers admitted of possession of cannabis on December 9, 2020,
