Taxi driver left with serious eye injury after being attacked in the early hours of Christmas in a Harborough village

Police are now urging anyone who witnesses the incident to come forward.

The incident took place at around 1am on December 25 outside the Rose and Crown Pub, on Uppingham Road/the A47, in Houghton on the Hill.

The taxi driver was assaulted and sustained a serious injury to his eye.

The 38-year-old victim was taken to hospital and remained there for several days for treatment. Detectives have made so far it’s believed a number of people were in the road at the time and may have witnessed the assault.

The suspect has been described by police as a white man, 19 to 20-years-old, about 5ft 9ins tall, of skinny build with dark brown hair.

DC Mike Archer is investigating the incident, he said: “We know there were a number of people out celebrating on Christmas Eve into the early hours of Christmas Day, we are sure the incident was witnessed by those in the area.

“The victim was in his taxi and had just dropped off a fare when he was punched in the face.

“If you witnessed the assault or have any information about the person responsible we would urge you to get in touch. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help us identify the suspect.”
