TAX credit claimants in Daventry are being reminded that they must let HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) know if their childcare costs fall or end.
As part of a Government crackdown on fraud, letters will start being sent out this week asking claimants to contact HMRC within one month if their childcare costs have changed, for example because their child has started school.
There are currently 800 families in Daventry claiming the childcare element of working tax credit.
Deliberately failing to let HMRC know about changes can result in a prosecution.
Exchequer secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, said: “There is too much error and fraud in our tax credit system.”
