It followed on from an event at Chasers, in New Street, on Saturday at which the bar’s customers got the chance to sing and dance alongside the stars.

Among the celebrities who played on Sunday were Danny Miller, Luke Roskell and Joe Gill from Emmerdale, The Village’s Nico Mirallegro and, from Waterloo Road, Reece Douglas, Ceallach Spellmann, Jack McMullan and Dean Smith. Matt Lapinskas from Dancing on Ice also played in the game.

The celebrities won 3-2 with a goal from Miller and two from Mirallegro while Lewis Day scored both of the Daventry XIs goals.

The event was organised by Terry O’Neill through his Football for Charity organisation. He said: “It was a really fantastic game, really end to end stuff.

“The celebs team got two goals quite quickly. The Daventry XI pulled a goal back but the celebs made it 3-1 before half time. We tried to push and grab the equaliser but it wasn’t to be and the celeb team were very lively on the break.

“There was a good atmosphere for the game with a crowd of 250.

“A big thank you to all of the volunteers and for people who donated the raffle prizes.”

A total of £2,500 was raised for Once Upon A Smile,a charity that works with families and children that have experienced bereavement, providing financial support and respite breaks and days out for children.

The next Football for Charity event will be an England All Stars team visiting Communications Park on Saturday June 14.
