THREE schools on a town estate have applied for academy status.
The Danetre and Southbrook Schools Learning Village made the decision to apply to the Department of Education (DfE) last week.
If successful, it will give the learning village freedom from local authority control, control over its own budget and greater flexibility to set its own curriculum.
David Howell, principal of the learning village, which consists of Danetre School as well as Southbrook infant and junior schools, said: “The move towards academy status is about building on our ability to operate independently and successfully.”
