Signposts said to be solution to HGV row

SIGNPOSTS to direct HGV lorries around the Headlands Industrial Estate are to be put up to prevent accidents in the coming months.

County highways have agreed to signpost a route for vehicle deliveries to Edinburgh Square after residents expressed their concerns about the lorries to Cllr Chris Long and the Daventry Express.

Residents, particularly those living on Highfield Road, thought the HGVs posed a danger as they mounted curbs to fit down slim residential roads, chewed up grass areas on the pavement and damaged parked cars.

Large holes in the grass were thought to be potentially dangerous for walkers at night.

The proposed signposted route will be Hemans Road, as buses already use it as part of their normal route and its a wide feeder road, and Queens Road, north of Highfield Road, and leads to the shops on Edinburgh Square.

The signposts are estimated to be put up in the next two months.

The county highways maintenance team is also looking into repairing the grass verges on Highfield Road to prevent them posing a further danger.
