Shedding light on plans for area’s first solar farm

PLANS to build the first solar farm in Northamptonshire have been unveiled to the public for the first time.

Farmer Hugh Paton, of Manor Farm in Adstone near Woodford Halse, is hoping to develop a solar farm on 30 acres of his farmland set between Adstone and Canons Ashby.

If approved the site would contain a series of solar panels, which would produce enough energy to power up to 1,000 local households.

Mr Paton, who has farmed in the area since 1971 and is working with solar company called AEE Renewables, invited local people to look at the proposals yesterday in a bid to gather public opinion.

It is expected that a planning application for the development will be submitted to Daventry District Council in the next couple of weeks.

Mr Paton said more than 50 people went along to view his plans. “The response has been very positive,” he said.

“We had one person suggest we re-route a water pipe and it this sort of feedback which is really useful.

“We will continue to consult over the next couple of weeks, make any adjustments and then submit it to the planning process.”

The proposed site lies just within Daventry District Council’s area jurisdiction.
