At the launch of the Free Food February festival, Daventry Brass Band Hall Slimming World group members Des and Alison Pratt were named Couple of the Year 2016 for their achievement.

The festival – named after the so-called “free foods” that Slimming World members are encouraged to enjoy as much as they like of when trying to lose weight – is being held at Slimming World groups across the country.

Husband-and-wife Des and Alison said that preparing, cooking and eating the same meals and supporting one another on their weight loss journeys has been key to their success.

Des, who lost 3st 4lbs, said: “When we first joined Slimming World we couldn’t believe how much food we could eat and still lose weight.

“Making small changes to the way we cooked our meals meant we could still enjoy all of our favourite meals.”

Alison, who lost 2st 2lbs, said: “We’re lucky because as well as the support we had from each other, the rest of the group have also been there for us.

“Every week in our group we swap recipes and if we’ve ever struggled there has always been someone ready to suggest a new idea or remind us why we shouldn’t give up.”

Des’s new healthy lifestyle has inspired him to sign up for the 12km Ram Run Obstacle Course in Stoneleigh in April to raise money for the chemotherapy suite at Northampton General Hospital.
