Series of open days set to celebrate the rich history of Northamptonshire

A host of heritage venues will open their doors to the public as part of a week celebrating Northamptonshire’s rich history this week.

Northamptonshire Heritage Week, running from today (Monday) are themed “Northamptonshire - A Millennium of Monarch Making,” and will be on a first come, first serve basis.

All the open days, a list of which can be viewed at www.heritageweek.co.uk, are being organised and run by volunteers.

The week is also due to culminate with a conference entitled Heritage in the Economy at Boughton House, Geddington, on Friday, September 11, hosted by the Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership (NEP).

The day-long conference will see the owners of various heritage sites around the county and more give talks on how to turn historical venues into viable businesses that benefit the local economy.

Jo Lappin, NEP chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have attracted such an excellent line up of speakers for the Heritage in the Economy Conference, which is recognition of the important heritage offer available here in Northamptonshire.

“This is an absolute must attend event for anybody involved in the heritage sector, who wants to hear how the sector can demonstrate real economic returns.”

The week is also timed to coincide with National Heritage Open Days running from September 8 to September 13, which will see St Giles’ Church, Royal and Derngate Theatre, Borjia and many more open to tourists for guided open days.
