See Daventry from a whole new angle at open weekend

FREE hot air balloon rides will be on offer at the Daventry Open Event this weekend.

Visitors to the Daventry Open Weekend 2011 will have the chance to enter a free prize draw to win the chance to go up in a hot air balloon.

The National Lottery’s London 2012 Games Hot Air Balloon will be at Daventry Sports Park on Saturday, July 23, offering a tethered balloon ride to some lucky winners, subject to weather conditions.

The balloon comes to the town as part of the Daventry Open Weekend activities, a celebration of the one-year countdown to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

An extravaganza of free activities will be taking place all day at Daventry Leisure Centre on Saturday, July 23, and at the Althorp Estate near Northampton on Sunday, July 24.

At the end of both days there will be free cinema screenings of the latest family feature films, and there is no need to book for any of the events, people can just turn up and register on the day.

Entry to the balloon raffle will open at 10am and close at 4pm. The tethered balloon flights will take place from 7pm at Daventry Sports Park and people are encouraged to head down there and watch them. The flights are being funded by the Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership, Northamptonshire County Council, and the Empowering Councillor’s Scheme.

The weekend has been organised by Daventry District Council as well as other local organisations including Northamptonshire County Council and Northamptonshire Sport as part of London 2012 Open Weekend, supported by BP.
