The English flag will be flying high as scouting organisations across the Daventry district remember St George on Saturday.

The annual St George’s Day parade goes through the town centre starting at 2pm to remember England’s patron saint. The parade will be carried out by the Daventry and district scouts, starting at the Old Swimming Pool car park at 2pm. As with last year’s parade it will be led by the Northamptonshire Scout Band and the Mayor of Daventry, Cllr Mark Wesley.

The parade will then walk up through North Street, along the High Street, Sheaf Street, Bowen Square before finishing at the New Street Recreation Ground at about 2.30pm.

From 3pm onwards Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers will be taking part in activities as well as renewing their scouting promise.

Jennie Curtis from the Daventry and District Scouts said: “Members of the public are very welcome to come along and watch the activities.”

Around 300 young people, aged between six and 18, took part in the parade last year.
