Schools decide on closure at strike action looms

SCHOOLS may have to close as headteachers in the Daventry area brace themselves for teaching strikes next week.

The National Union of Teachers and Association of Teachers and Lecturers voted to strike earlier this month in response to a government decision to reform the pension system.

Teachers will have to contribute an extra £1,500 per year to their pension and the retirement age will go from 60 to 66 for state employees in 2020 under the new plans.

While not all schools will be closing, the action has left others with no choice.
