FORMER England international rugby player Ben Cohen was the star attraction at a charity rugby match on Saturday.

The event, at Daventry Rugby Club, was organised in memory of teenager Josh Granfield who died after falling through a roof on the Royal Oak industrial estate in 2007. Funds from the day are still coming in but Josh’s father, John Granfield, believes the game raised around £2,000.

This will be divided between Daventry Rugby Club, where his 16-year-old son used to play, and the Warwickshire and Northampton Air Ambulance Service which airlifted Josh to hospital after the accident.

Josh’s best friend Sam Dudgeon invited the star, who was a member of the 2003 England World Cup-winning squad, to play at the match.

Sam Said: “A lot more people came down because Ben was there; it was really good. When I spoke to him after the match he said he really enjoyed it. This has definitely been the biggest tribute we have done so far, it was great.”

Mr Granfield added: “It was a fantastic day, absolutely brilliant. Everyone did so much to help and I would like to say a special thanks to Sam Dudgeon and Margaret Elcock and my wife Luan who did so much.”
