England’s Rugby World Cup campaign may have ended in disappointment, but youngsters will get a chance to show the seniors how it’s done at fun sports camps this month.
Daventry District Council’s leisure partner Everyone Active has organised rugby coaching sessions, which will be taken by qualified coaches from Daventry Rugby Club during the half term week, from October 26 to 30.
Sessions for children aged 5 to 12 will take place at the club, off Western Avenue, on the Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 3pm.
Other sports camps being put on by Everyone Active during the half term week include trampolining, tennis and basketball, all taking place at Daventry Leisure Centre for children aged 5 to 16.
The trampolining takes place on the Monday and Tuesday from 12.30pm to 3pm, tennis is on Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 3pm, and basketball in partnership with Ballstarz is on the Friday, also from 10am to 3pm.
All the camps cost £12.50 per day, or £50 if booking for the week. Children booking onto the camps can also pay £2.35 to join the Connections Club, which offers a variety of games and activities from 8.30am until the start of the camp, as well as free hour swim which can be redeemed any time between 1.30pm and 4pm.
Councillor Alan Hills, community, culture and leisure portfolio holder at Daventry District Council, said: “England’s World Cup may have ended earlier than hoped but hopefully the tournament is inspiring young people to take up the sport, and these rugby camps offer the perfect introduction.
“There are lots of other sports to take part in during the half term week, so it’s a great opportunity for children to have fun and keep active with professional coaches in a safe and enjoyable environment.”
