For 50 years Santa has been making his special pre- Christmas visit to Daventry to help the Danetre Rotary Club raise money for good causes.
And on Wednesday, November 19, following generous donations from residents in and around Daventry, Clive Brown, President of Danetre Rotary Club, presented Riding for the Disabled (RDA)with a cheque for £2,000 raised at last year’s tour.
For 20 years, RDA Daventry – with the help of a team of dedicated volunteers – has enabled 12 disabled people a week to ride a pony. The animals carry their riders around a ménage performing patterns and sequences at walking pace. This activity is beneficial to the riders as exercise helps to build up their muscles, promote confidence and enable RDA’s clients to socialise.
Bob Snedker, Rotary Club spokesman said: “Donations will give the group financial security, help buy more specialist equipment and enable it to expand and develop to assist even more people.”
Santa and Rotary club volunteers will this month be visiting a different area from 6.30pm each evening until December 19.
