CHILDREN and volunteers are to receive certificates for for their achievements of reading throughout the summer holidays.

Budding bookworms across the county have taken part in the national Summer Reading Challenge, coordinated by the Reading Agency and through Northamptonshire County Council’s libraries, to meet the challenge of reading at least six books over the summer holidays.

Children could choose which books they wish to read and collect stickers and then a medal and certificate when they complete the challenge.

Cabinet member for customers and communities Cllr Heather Smith said: “Well done to all the children who have taken part in the Summer Reading Challenge. It’s a great way to get children reading and enjoying books as well as encouraging families to visit their local libraries.”

To celebrate the achievements of the children who have taken part, authors, key local figures and sports people will visit libraries to present the certificates and medals and to talk to the children about their reading achievements. These will be handed throughout September.
