The recycling centre in Daventry is to be closed for two days a week starting next month.

The plans have been confirmed by Northamptonshire County Council as part of a cost-cutting plans.

The tip at Browns Road, currently open seven days a week, will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday and will be open from 10am to 6pm.

The plans were originally announced at the end of last year but have now been confirmed following a meeting of the county council’s cabinet.

Speaking after the original proposal was announced Cllr Michael Clarke, county council cabinet member for transport, highways and environment, said: “We’ve received a great deal of feedback from people during the consultation and we’ve used this to help shape proposals, namely around opening hours and days. Our household waste recycling centres are a very important service, providing hubs where people can take their waste and recycling.”

The changes to opening hours will be implemented from February 1.

All 10 recycling centres in the county will face closure for two days a week, resulting in an annual saving of £430,000 by the end of 2016/17 on the £2.7 million it currently costs to run the service.
