A WORLD record attempt will take place next month for the most people in one place with the same first name.

The attempt is being made in memory of Tom Whitely, who died of a brain tumour in November 2010 at the age of nine.

His grandfather Graham Whitely has lived in Daventry for 40 years and worked as an optician at Anstee and Proctor in Sheaf Street before retiring.

He is now urging everyone with the name Tom or Thomas to meet at Old Trafford football stadium in Manchester at 2pm on Sunday, July 8 for the world record attempt. More than 1,100 people are needed to break the record.

Following Tom’s death Tom’s Trust was set up to provide clinical psychology for children with brain tumours and their family.
