Prizes given out in competition to decorate Daventry with pink bikes

The winners in Daventry's contest to decorate the town with pink bicycles have been presented with their prizes.

Daventry Mayor Cllr Glenda Simmons along Jim Shoesmith President of Rotary Club of Daventry presented the winners of the Pink Bike Community Project with their prizes at Daventry Leisure Centre.

The project coordinated by Daventry Town Council, Northamptonshire Sport and Daventry Cycling Club had 25 entries from local schools and all the bikes were used to decorate the route welcoming the Aviva Women’s tour to Daventry for the first time.

The prize money was donated by The Rotary Club of Daventry who presented the winners Parker E Act Academy with a cheque for £100 and the two highly commended entries from Long Buckby Junior School and Little Un’s Day Care Centre each received a cheque for £50.

A spokesman for Daventry Town Council said: “Thank you to all the schools who entered, Daventry Cycling Club and Sport Northamptonshire for all the hard work involved with the collecting and delivering of bike, residents for donating their bikes and Daventry Rotary Club for coming up with the idea and donating the prize money.

“The winning entries will remain on display at Daventry Leisure Centre as the town has two more cycling events taking place in July. This Sunday July 10 is Daventry’s Cycling Club’s “Sportive” event starting and finishing at Daventry Leisure Centre welcoming local residents and families to get on their bike and raise some money for charity.
