Police pledge to do more over attacks on guide dogs

Northamptonshire Police have become the first force in the country to pledge to treat attacks on guide dogs more seriously.

Chief Inspector Dave Lawson, from Northamptonshire Police specialist operations unit, said: “Northamptonshire Police is the first force in the country to sign a written agreement pledging to treat an attack on a guide or other assistance dog more seriously.

“This means formally recognising the impact on the owner when they record the crime, using a specialist officer to support investigations and offering more support.”

Guide Dogs’Coventry mobility team manager Graham Kensett added: “We are delighted with this agreement, which recognises the devastating impact of an attack on a guide dog for both the dog and the owner.”
