Police ahead of the curve when it comes to cuts

THE police say satisfaction rates in the county are at record highs, while they are ahead with their cost-cutting.

Northants Police had to cut 20 per cent (around £20 million) from its budget over four years starting in March 2011.

So far the police authority has managed to cut £9 million.

A report out on Monday into the value provided by the force praised it for becoming more efficient focusing on the public.

Police authority chairman Deirdre Newham said: “The force has not shied away from making some tough decisions in order to ensure that frontline services are protected as far as possible. An important step in this regard is the ongoing recruitment of more officers, to bring the force back up to its recommended level.”
