Play area planned for Daventry

Residents are being urged to give their views on a proposed new children’s play area in Daventry.

A public consultation is being held by Daventry District Council (DDC) to see if new playground equipment catering for 4 to 8-year-olds should be installed in the Shackleton Drive area and if so, which design they would like to see.

A playground was previously situated in that area but attracted vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

Three potential designs of the play area have been drawn up, and people’s views are wanted on which design they prefer, as well as whether they support the proposed location.

DDCs community, culture, and leisure portfolio holder Cllr Alan Hills said: “We have £25,000 of developer funding available for some new play equipment in this area but are aware that there were some problems there previously.

“We have thought about those issues in the design process and are also proposing to put the equipment closer to Ashby Road where passers-by can see it. This would hopefully deter similar behaviour happening again.

“Once the consultation closes we will consider the views received from local residents as to whether the play area should be provided or not and if so which is the preferred design. I would encourage as many people as possible to let us know their thoughts.”

A survey is available online for people to complete at The closing date for responses is Friday, July 19.
