Plan for three new warehouses in Daventry

The three units have been proposed for land off Leamington Way next to the Ford buildings.

The application, from Canmoor Developments, is for two larger units and one smaller unit, for warehouse or light industry use, totalling 31,938 sq m.

The land is currently unused and forms part of grass between the road and current buildings.

Access to all three units would be off Leamington Way, with ‘left in, left out’ turning restrictions in place, due to the presence of roundabouts at either end of the short road.

Within the application it says: “This development represents a unique opportunity, not only to create a high-quality development to suit the needs of businesses that want to modernise facilities within the area, but also to create a catalyst for the regeneration of neighbouring properties.

“This will be achieved by creating a choice of accommodation that is limited in the area. The development will transform a vacant site into a well designed, landscaped and contemporary facility, bringing valuable employment to the area.”

The application includes provision for 250 car parking spaces for workers, along with bays for deliveries by HGV.

The site already has outline planning permission for this type of development, which was granted back in 2013 by the now defunct West Northamptonshire Development Corporation.

The planning application has already been discussed by Daventry Town Council, which opposed the proposals.

Cllr Lynne Taylor, a member of the town council’s planning committee, said: “As a councillor for Drayton Ward, I’m against this. It will be a massive development on one of the entrances to Daventry. It will get rid of the wide verge. It will create noise – the Grange and Drayton can already hear noise from the industrial units. That road is a main arterial way, part of the ‘ring road’ and this will increase slow traffic on it. Also no other industrial units open onto main roads in Daventry – they are all off side roads.

A decision to grant planning permission or not will be taken by DDC’s planning committee.
