Picture gallery: Flying Scotsman steams through Northamptonshire

Thousands of people turned out to watch the Flying Scotsman speed through Northamptonshire as the legendary locomotive made its way to York.

Over the past 10 years the passenger train has undergone a £4.2m restoration and has finally returned to the tracks.

On Saturday the Flying Scotsman steamed through Wellingborough, stopped off at Kettering for some water, and continued through Corby station and over the picturesque Harringworth viaduct.

Thousands took up spots along the line to see the train, which ran to the east of Wellingborough alongside the River Ise and past the Finedon Road Industrial Estate.

In Kettering, some caught a glimpse from the south of Wicksteed Park, from Kettering Parkway, or from many of the fields surrounding Barford Bridge.

There were also vantage points at the Rockingham Road bridge, the Cottingham Road bridge and Lydia’s Coffee Shop in Gretton.

However the most popular spot for viewing was at the Harringworth Viaduct - Britain’s longest masonry viaduct.

And if you missed it all - don’t panic - The Flying Scotsman will be back on June 25 to do it all again.
