The Phoenix Youth Centre has lodged a planning application for a £1.5 million extension and modernisation.

The plans have been submitted to Daventry District Council to bring the club into the 21st century and cope with the growing number of young people that use its facilities. The application would modernise the Centre, extend its gymnastics hall and generally enhance the condition and appearance of the building.

Elaine Bedford, president of The Phoenix Youth Centre, who has been involved there for more than 30 years, said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to modernise the Phoenix to meet the huge and growing demand to use our club. At the moment we have to spend more money on maintaining and repairing the building than on the young people who come to use it.”
