Petition launch in housing protest

The petition launch follows a public meeting where hundreds of residents expressed concerns over the plans by Gladman to build 155 houses in a site off New Street.

Issues they voiced included the potential increased flooding in an area that regularly floods, heightened traffic on a very busy, narrow road, site traffic and the strain on local services such as the doctors and dentist and the currently oversubscribed primary school.

Weedon resident and mum of three Kit Edwards commented: “If the development goes ahead it will undoubtedly have an impact on the whole village.

“The primary school is currently at capacity and it is heart breaking to hear that last year several children who live in the village didn’t get into the primary school as it is over subscribed.

“I have young children and I want them to grow and learn at the village primary school with their siblings and friends that they have grown up with. I would therefore urge councillors to reject the plans as a development on this scale is completely inappropriate and potentially detrimental to the village.”

Dale Langley, from the campaign group, hopes the petition will help fight the development. He said: “Villagers really do feel strongly about this damaging development. We are receiving lots of support and positive responses from people which is really encouraging.

“The petition signatures are increasing hourly illustrating just how strongly people feel about this development.”
