Shoppers celebrate return of Daventry Market after months of lockdown

Phased return for market on June 2

Daventry Town Council, which bought the site in 2018, has revealed how it plans a phased return of the market.

Following Government guidelines, it is set to re-open on Tuesday, June 2.

A spokesman said: “We will confirm later which traders will be back initially, and detail the social distancing rules in place to keep traders and shoppers safe. We would like to reassure residents that DTC are carrying out all the relevant risk assessments to achieve Government guidelines for when the market re-opens on Tuesday.

“Thank you to local residents for their continued support and we look forward to seeing you again next week.”

Daventry has had a market for around 700 years, originally selling everything from local produce to livestock.

Now it features around 10 stalls in High Street every Tuesday and Friday, including plants, fruit and veg, baked goods, a butcher, household goods, fabrics, clothing and watch repairs.
