There are severe queues both ways on the M1 near Northampton on Wednesday morning following a four-vehicle pile-up.

Three cars and a van are reported to be involved in the smash, close to the junction 16 southbound exit

Highways England say lanes one, two and four are blocked while fire and ambulance services deal with the incident.

Traffic was already tailing back approximately seven miles to the M45 at just after 8am, with delays of up to an HOUR.

Sensors also show traffic crawling on the A5 between Weedon Bec and Crick as drivers attempt to find an alternative route off the motorway

Northbound, a broken down abnormal load between junction 14 for MIlton Keynes and junction 15 is also causing rush-hour delays with traffic crawling along at 10mph trying to get past.
