Concerns have been raised about a 'dangerous' hole in a road in Daventry which the council has known about for weeks but failed to fix.

The drain on Williams Terrace has lost its cover after years of flooding due to constant blockages - another issue Northamptonshire County Council did not resolve.

Mike Corser, who lives next to the hole on the corner of Western Avenue, believes the hole is a hazard for cars, cyclists and pedestrians.

"It really is a danger to people we can't get anybody out to fix it. It's a bad hazard - if someone walked over it in the dark they will break their leg," he said.

Mr Corser said he has been complaining to the council about the drain for years as it regularly gets blocked and causes flooding down the hill.

When the drain cover disintegrated, the 70-year-old retired financial advisor put some wood from an old decking over the top to stop vehicles or people from going into it.

When the council finally came out to inspect the hole about two weeks ago, they replaced the wood with a traffic cone, which vanished after two days so the old decking is back.

Mr Corser said: "I thought about pouring concrete into it or expanding polystyrene - it really worries me as we have had a lot of crashes outside the house with kids falling off bikes."

A council spokesman said highways officers were due to go out to inspect the hole this afternoon (Wednesday) to look at what the next steps are.
