A local organisation that oversees sport across Northamptonshire has launched a new campaign to help small clubs survive the pandemic.

Northamptonshire Sport, which is linked to Northamptonshire County Council and receives funding from Sport England, is hoping the new social media initiative will remind residents that local clubs will still be around after the enforced break ends.

The campaign, which can be recognised by the with the hashtag ‘#ClubPlug’, involves sports clubs creating a video including members telling people what they enjoy about the club, why they are missing it and why others should join.

Northamptonshire Sport’s director Chris Holmes said: “Sports clubs play a vital role for people all over Northamptonshire. They help improve people’s physical and mental health as well as providing great social hubs.

“The current pandemic has been a massive blow to these clubs, so we just want them to get involved in #ClubPlug to help remind their current members they are still there and raise their profile amongst other people too.

“They are going to play an important role in the future as we recover from the pandemic, so we want to ensure they survive the current crisis and emerge from it even stronger than they were before.”

The campaign is designed to remind current members of clubs that they are still there despite the current break enforced upon them by the pandemic.

It will also make other people aware that they exist and hopefully result in increased membership when it’s safe for them to return and there is even a prize for the tweet that gets the most likes.

Videos should be tweeted from the sports club’s Twitter page tagging @Nsport and using the #ClubPlug hashtag.

Within the tweet another sports club from the county must be nominated to take part too.
