17. Sajad Hashimi & Zerka Maranay
The husband and wife pair were jailed for a combined total of more than seven years after admitting using drones to smuggle illegal contraband into 11 UK prisons and young offender institutes. Hashimi, 27, and 28-year-old Maranay, of Compayne Garden, London, were arrested following an investigation led by Northamptonshire Police’s Serious and Organised Crime Team into drones flying into Onley prison.The probe identified more than 100 drone flights into 11 prisons and young offender institutes on 78 separate dates — 72 of the drops taking place at Onley. Maranay used her bank account to launder nearly £50,000, which Hashimi was paid for piloting the drones.Hasmini received 73 months for conspiracy to supply a cannabis, being concerned in the supply of heroin and conspiracy to convey prohibited articles.
