A Daventry business has donated £1,000 to help people with autism enjoy more independent lives.

Autism East Midlands, which supports autistic people by providing a range of services including adult residential homes, outreach services and support for independent living, received the funds from Amazon's fulfilment centre.

Gareth Davies, site leader at Amazon in Daventry, said: “We’re pleased to lend a helping hand to Autism East Midlands. The charity does important work in our community and provides great support to those who need it.”

Stephen Knott, head of fundraising and partnerships from Autism East Midlands, said: “On behalf of everyone at Autism East Midlands, I want to say a big thank you to Gareth and the team from Amazon. This has been a hugely challenging year for the individuals and families we support. Community donations like these ensure we are able to keep supporting those who need us most.”

Autism East Midlands received the donation as part of the 'Amazon In The Community' programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during Covid-19.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic breakfast and delivering more than two and a half million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
