People may decide field fate

PEOPLE in Daventry could face a decision on the future of the Eastern Way Playing Field earmarked for the controversial WaterSpace plans.

The plans put forward by Daventry District Council could see a canal, marina and homes built on the playing field as part of its masterplan.

However, the Friends of Daventry Open Spaces (FODOS) has applied to Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) to get town green status for the field preventing any future development on the site.

In a further twist, FODOS has asked Daventry Town Council (DTC) to put a request into NCC asking them to launch its own independent consultation and to ask people whether the Eastern Way Playing Field should be protected.

This was discussed at a meeting of DTC on Monday and the authority decided to agree to the request as it had previously made a commitment to preserving open green spaces in the town.

DTC will write to NCC about the request in the neat future.
