People in Daventry urged to vote for favourite bike race costume

In a fight for supremacy, Harry Potter's magic wand would sure triumph over Fred Flintstone's stone-age club - but when it comes to fancy dress, people in Daventry are being asked to vote for their favourite.

The prize for best outfits worn at a charity bike ride last year is being decided by an online vote.

The launch of Cycle4Cynthia, an annual event which raises money for Northampton’s Cynthia Spencer Hospice, takes place at the home of Northampton Saints rugby club, Franklin’s Gardens, at 6.30pm on Tuesday, April 4.

The fancy dress winner will be announced on the day.

Also vying for the title are a cyclist who pedalled in a bright blue ‘Mrs Bump’ costume last year and a gang of girls who brought a ray of sunshine to the autumn event by riding dressed as daffodils, while most of the 1,154 people who took part in the ride at Holdenby House donned their lycra.

Saints coach Jim Mallinder and some of the players will be on hand at the launch of the 14th year of the ride to present that trophy, as well as those for the largest corporate team to take part, most money raised by an individual and the Chairman’s Award, which is given in recognition of a special contribution to the event.

In addition, the total amount raised in sponsorship will be revealed, of which every penny will go to supporting the invaluable work of Cynthia Spencer Hospice, while the details of this year’s ride will also be announced.

To view the contenders and to vote for your favourite fancy dress outfit, visit and ‘like’ the hospice’s or ride’s page on Facebook.
