People of Daventry go the extra mile for Sport Relief

Over 65 local people turned out in force on Sunday 20th March at the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in Daventry.

Milers of all ages were sponsored to walk or run themselves proud from Daventry Leisure Centre and across the Eastern Way Playing Fields.

The day was a massive success with friends and families joining together to go the extra mile for Sport Relief 2016.

More participants ran the three and six mile routes than did two years ago, there were some who did it in fancy dress, and even some in England Rugby outfits to celebrate winning the Grand Slam.

Adam Mundy said, “It was a fantastic day! Watching the community come together to support such a great cause was brilliant.

“We feel very proud knowing that the money raised here today will help people living unimaginably tough lives right here in Northamptonshire, across the rest of the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.”

Councillor Alan Hills, community, culture and leisure portfolio holder on Daventry District Council, sounded the klaxon to get the runners underway and handed out the medals at the end.

He said: “Everyone who took part did very well. Some ran the course, some walked, but everyone finished and the main thing was they all raised money for a good cause through sponsorship.

“My congratulations to everyone involved.”

Sport Relief would like to say a huge thank you to each and every person who has donated money or given their time to go the extra mile.
